The Power of Healthy Fats

Some people are afraid of dietary fat. After all if it’s called fat it might actually make us gain fat right?

Well, not always.

Of course, too much of anything will lead to weight gain, but a reasonable serving of healthy fats with every meal can actually help you lose weight and improve your health.

That’s why this practice is to include a serving of healthy fat with each meal.

How Much To Eat?

Look at your thumb. That’s 1 serving of fat.

It’s that simple. One thumb of fat per meal.

You’ll find these healthy fats in whole, fresh, unprocessed foods like raw nuts and seeds, avocados, coconuts, olives, eggs, fatty fish such as salmon, pastured grass-fed meat, and believe it or not, butter. Especially butter from grass-fed cows.

When you include healthy fats in your diet, you’ll notice that you feel happier and smarter. Healthier skin. Maybe even weight loss.

Your meals will taste better and be more satisfying and you’ll feel more full longer.

But wait; aren’t the saturated fats in eggs, meat and butter bad fo us?

Well, actually no!

When included as part of your healthy fat intake when eaten in moderation and when balanced with other great fats like raw nuts and seeds, fish oils, avocados and olives, saturated fats are great for you.

The fats you don’t want are trans-fats. These can cause serious health problems and you’ll find them in processed foods, such as baked goods, fried fast foods, snack foods, margarine and cooking spray and pre-mixed products.

To know if a fat has trans-fats in it simply look at the ingredient list. If you see the word hydrogenated you’ll know it does. So read labels.

And wherever possible have some healthy fat from whole fresh foods instead of unhealthy fats from processed foods.

Just remember, one thumb and then you’re done!
